Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum
They have an interesting Native American collection at Clyde too. I wonder if they have that digitized?
@Sara - interesting - I haven't heard about that
We use Otava for a cloud service and have been able to set our employees and volunteers up so they can gain access from home. This has been transformative to allowing us to work from home.
I have an ongoing list of things I have always wanted to have staff do, but don't have time.
Will students be required to do virtual internships this summer even if the quarantine is lifted?
Our summer interns will start remote. Our hope is that it will transition at some point to at least some on-site work, but we aren't guaranteeing that.
That is what I am considering for my summer intern
Has anyone had Zoom staff meetings and included interns in that to get them some "professional" connections/knowledge?
Remote interns, I mean.
If I has interns right now, I would require them to attend virtual staff meetings.
We don't currently have any.
We won't have interns if they aren't in house. We really don't have work that we would be willing to have interns do remotely.
Elyssa, any chance you can share that list of resources for the students? Or is it online somewhere from State Archives?
We will have to decrease the diversity internship program through MAMA this year.
We will only be able to offer four paid internships.
I've been thinking a lot about digitizing photos
And we have had a lot of people reach out to us.
I would love to have an intern that can help set up, organize, and host the "Show Me Missouri Museums and Archives" virtual program.
@Sara - that sounds like a great idea
I think it would be a good project for someone who is interested in educational programming.
@Sara - yes definitely
I think that this is a great opportunity for museums that perhaps are not close to universities to support internships when normally they would have trouble attracting interns.
I think museum sites should submit virtual internship projects that we could advertise to students.
I also have a student who is looking for a virtual internship to tell LGBTQ history in Missouri and I think this would be a worthy project.
@Sara - Yes that would be great. And maybe students could also post on there if they are interested in internships?
I like the idea of connecting sites to interns through MAMA. I would have to think about the technology.
Even just a google doc/sheet like from AAM would be great
and then we can have the link editable (maybe) on the website and re-post it once a week on the FB page
A MAMA spreadsheet would be helpful.
That is a neat idea.
That is a good idea for interns to meet during their internships
could we do a google form? So we have the template that autofills the spreadsheet?
It would also be great to have interns present in a Zoom about their internships.
Jamie - would that be easier than having sites just fill in the excel sheet?
with the forms, we would still have to regularly post an updated google sheet - with the sheet, people can just manage it themselves
This is a shorter link for the list of remote internships that AAM Museum Studies is putting together. https://forms.gle/8Njyj975E4mx3qci9
I don't think we would. The form would autofill into a sheet. If we shared the sheet with people, they would get updated versions when they access it
IF YOU ARE A STUDENT LOOKING FOR AN INTERNSHIP, please review: https://tinyurl.com/wlwwnpp
Yes, we can do a Google Form easily enough.
I love having interns and when making hiring decisions, I look at my intern pool first.
But Brenna's statement just made me realize we should add internship opportunities to our website.
@Sara - definitely!! That always makes places feel more open to students.
Would like to discuss our experience with interns. Cindy
I agree, interns can really surprise you! Sometimes I learn more from them.
Cindy that is awesome that your interns went above and beyond and turned out so well.
At the Missouri Historical Society we have a Volunteer Intern Manager who is the person who makes sure the intern has an orientation, and the person to go to if the intern has any questions or concerns.
If anyone wants to join in the Freedom's Frontier Open Mic to talk about anything, we start at 3 p.m. Here's the link and info to copy. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83356156529?pwd=ZEc5RnB2OVZuV1djcUdzblhZR1lvUT09Meeting ID: 833 5615 6529Password: 215903
Thank you. Great conversation.
On-line exhibits, virtual tours, Zoom programs...
There are a lot of virtual options for interns.
Sarah Bader-King has volunteered to do a tutorial to show folks how it's done.
I have to run. Have a 3:00 appointment. Thanks!
